Invited to come to Taiwan during the Covid-19 pandemic, artist Yuko Nishikawa set out for a long day of strolling through Kaohsiung City after her mandatory quarantine eased. She walked through a harbor, markets, beaches, and mountains, watched the locals, and followed along the undefined trails behind the vendor's kitchens, picking up things that made her excited, including drifted plastics on a beach and sword-shaped fibrous bean shells in a park.

She also collected scenes and landscapes: moving LED signs fronting the ornate temples nestled among the residences, the confident sweeping contours of the ships at the harbors, the round stainless tanks, shining on top of the clustered buildings, reminding her of NY dim-sum restaurants' steamers. She observed the way things like cooking, eating and napping spill out of homes into public space.

Nishikawa used the objects and ideas that she came across during her residence as creative media and enjoyed observing what came out of them. She said, "Creating is something similar to strolling. I find joy in using my body to move in and around space and using my hands to touch objects and people, to get to know with my senses. This often brings me unexpected unplanned encounters. I only will know what will appear after I have taken the next step. So I want to keep moving my body and my hands. Keep strolling, picking things up, and creating and enjoying."
