▍Exhibition Concept
Worlds areconstantly in formation. From the depths of our oceans to the celestial layers, beings – physical and spiritual, human and non-human – create and recreate theworld(s) around them. At the same time, legacies of the past seep intocontemporary moments and refract into parallel worlds. This is the pluriverse, and we welcome you to it.
Presented as anarchaeological landscape, this exhibition provides glimpses into multitudinousworlds, both actual and imagined, associated with the context of Kaohsiung. Thestory, which starts in the late 19th-century and extends into the present day, centres the modernisation of the local port. Such large-scale infrastructuraldevelopment has required radical manipulation of the landscape over time, impacting living ecosystems in the process. We ask, what has been the naturalcost of developing Kaohsiung harbour into a major port? How have marineecologies specifically adapted to these changes? And, unbeknownst to ourhuman-centred world, who or what might have evolved to inhabit the marinepluriverse?
