About the Exhibition:
Water, one of the most essential elements for human beings, surrounds us in various forms. It circulates in the following way: It floats in the air as vapor, then falls as raindrops with the changes of temperature and climate, and at last goes down into the earth. Then the water under the ground transforms into rivers and streams due to the geographic formations. The flow of the river carries with it the creatures, substances or ever human communities along its course all the way down to the ocean, through which all the above three spread to the world. The branches of a river perform the same functions as those of blood vessels. The blood itself metabolizes food and oxygen and so on for us to be healthy. The river is not only closely related with civilization but also bears witness to the transformation of human lifestyle from being nomadic to being agricultural. And ever since the Industrial Revolution, human beings have had to build cities close to the river, depending on the river and ocean for transporting products and dumping waste water. Rivers-The Way of Living in Transition / Asia Contemporary Art links starts with Taiwan and focus on the way of ’ living ’ in the shift of social climate and urban development in Asian counties. There are four topics: Stories of Rivers, Metaphor of water, Environment & Urbanization and Moving and Moving, from a Place to Another, about which participant artists from Taiwan, Japan, South Korea,Thailand, Germany and France are going to think and discuss, through exhibitions, residence programs, talks and workshops.
2015 - 2016 "Rivers - The way of Living in Transition" is organized by Hot Spring Project Studio, The Pier 2 Art Center and Gwangju Museum of Art and sponsored by National Culture and Arts Foundation's curatorial program.
