▍ExhibitionText
Duringmy journey of residency at the Pier-2 Art Center, I came across an ancient mapof Yancheng District, which revealed that this place was once a sandbar, withcertain areas once being part of the sea. I couldn't but think of thepre-reclamation coastline of my hometown, Hong Kong. In my memories, thepre-reclamation coastline of Hong Kong Island was characterized by coastline roadsalongside tram tracks, which had thus become a symbol of the bygone shoreline. So,I wondered where Yancheng's bygone coastline hid.
For my exhibition"Seeking for the bygone coastline," apart from using cyclists'moving trajectories and the map as references, I also rode a bike silentlydocumenting travelers' journeys and imagining the traces of Yancheng's bygonecoastline by experiencing the vibrations of road surfaces in low-lying areas. My artworks employ various materials to document the landscapes. Videos, aswell as images reprocessed through printmaking techniques, depict my innerlandscapes that have disappeared or still exist. Through the landscapes duringmy tours and the movements of the travelers, the exhibition aims to explore thesubtle yet profound relationship between people and places.
