During his residency in Pier-2, artist Kim Deungyong would hear Tekla Badarzewska-Baranowska's "The Maiden's Prayer" around 5-6 pm every day, played on the yellow garbage trucks that would drive across the city at dusk for citizens who waited to discard their garbage. The fact that the artist's residency exhibition was named after this musical piece attested to how he mindfully experienced, learned about, and adapted to local people's way of life during his stay in Kaohsiung.
When people come in contact with a new space or environment, they often do not know to enjoy the new things, for they first tend to think about how to change their habits to become accustomed to the unfamiliar environment. It was the first time the artist joined an artist residency exchange program abroad, while living in a tourist spot; he not only experienced different cultures, but also found that besides art creation, he had to work hard to find his own rhythm, his own pace of life during his residency. Therefore, his exhibition was a record of what he saw and how he felt in his field study in Kaohsiung's Qianzhen District, and a presentation of his daily living in Pier-2.
