What will cross your mind when you gaze at the sea? While you may lament its vastness, compared to humans' smallness, and feel awed by its beauty, artist Poca always looks for ships. For her, ships are not only a means for people to travel on the sea, but also a means to carry different memories and souls. Poca's work, An Illustrated Guide to the Ships, marks her attempt to turn ships into male or female characters in seeking to better understand the ships. The exhibition was divided into two parts: "The Ships in the South" and "the Ships in the North", which were created during the artist's residency in the Pier-2 Art Center, Kaohsiung, and the Chen-Pin Fishing Harbor, Keelung, respectively. Although the Port of Kaohsiung and the Chen-Pin Fishing Harbor are similar in their development backgrounds, they have different stories. The artist told the stories through illustrations and small handmade storybooks in her exhibition.
